Our VIP Social Clubs
MAB runs a monthly VIP (Visually Impaired Person’s) Social Club in each of the nine London boroughs we serve: Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond. Each session, usually lasting two to three hours, brings blind and partially sighted people together for company, activities and practical support, giving members something to look forward to every month.
Sessions offer a varied programme. Depending on the month, the programme might include guest speakers, live entertainment, chair-based exercise and other wellbeing sessions, arts and crafts, singing, dancing or drama. MAB’s IT Trainers also attend to give technology demonstrations and one-to-one digital support.
Above all, the clubs are a place to meet others who understand what living with sight loss is like. Members share experiences, challenges and victories in a warm and non-judgemental environment, and many friendships formed at the clubs continue well beyond the monthly meetings. For people who might otherwise feel isolated, this regular contact makes a real difference to confidence and wellbeing.
The clubs are also a practical source of information. Members hear about local services, community events and developments relevant to visually impaired people, and their views and feedback help shape what MAB does.
Everyone is welcome, whether attending for the first time or as a regular of many years, and members are encouraged to contribute their own skills, experience and talents to club life.
If you or someone you know would like to join a VIP Social Club, please contact us on 020 8423 5141 or email info@aftb.org.uk and we will put you in touch with the club in your borough.
